Project Overview
cali

ENGEO provided Environmental and Geotechnical consultation services related to the design and construction of the new Sutter Medical Center in Santa Rosa, California, which consists of a 3-story medical physician building, a 5-story medical building, a 3-story medical office building, and a 2-story central utility plant to support the hospital. Site improvements such as widening of Marks West Springs Road and construction of stormwater retention areas, a water tank, and wastewater storage were part of the development. ENGEO was part of the design team that used lean design and integrated project delivery methods alongside advanced building technologies to improve efficiency and optimize project results, streamlining the construction schedule and costs.

E
Engeo's Role

ENGEO was the Environmental and Geotechnical consultant for the design and construction of the new Medical Center, and played a significant role in assisting the owner in preparing the Environmental Impact Report (EIR). In addition, we prepared an extensive watershed study for the Mark West Springs area, which was required for the project to be accepted by Sonoma County. Based on this study ENGEO installed two water production wells at the site to support the hospital and local usage.

Challenges & Solutions

Understanding the challenges and lengthy nature of the OSHPD review process, ENGEO proactively initiated communication with the OSHPD lead reviewer to expedite the review process and meet the timeline desired by the Sutter Medical project team. Over three months of consistent correspondence, ENGEO secured approval to proceed with an alternate compliance method. The Sutter Medical Center of Santa Rosa project broke ground in fall 2010, with the first phase of mass grading and surcharge construction completed swiftly. ENGEO installed advanced monitoring systems to track settlement, and analysing data to ensure compliance with theoretical calculations. Post-surcharge exploration confirmed improved soil conditions, leading to final OSHPD approval. This proactive and innovative approach facilitated timely project progression, highlighting the importance of early and effective communication with regulatory bodies.
